Ancient Chinese city vanished without a trace and stayed underwater for 53 years

The ancient city of Shi Cheng was founded 1,300 years ago, but disappeared underwater when a new hydro-electric station was built - where it stayed for 53 years.

Also known as Lion City, it is located in Zhejiang and was flooded when its valley was turned into a man-made lake for the new structure. Water levels rose and it soon became submerged underwater.

According to online reports, the once-lost city has now been given a new lease of life as an adventure park for tourists.

It now lies between 26 and 40 metres beneath the beautiful Thousand Island Lake.
