We may be well acquainted with the Chinese zodiac calendar, but how many of us are aware of the significance of the five Chinese elements?

For starters, this philosophical school of thought dictates that all the elements are interconnected in a grand cycle of creation - wood fuels fire; fire forms earth (in the form of volcanoes and ash); earth contains metal; metal carries water (via buckets and pipes); and water feeds wood (think trees and plants).

For an accurate reading of your Chinese element, it's best to do a Ba Zi birthday analysis, but as a general rule of thumb, you can use your birth year.

If the last number in your birth year is:

0 or 1, you are aligned with a metal element.

2 or 3, you are aligned with a water element.

4 or 5, you are aligned with a wood element.

6 or 7, you are aligned with a fire element.

8 or 9, you are aligned with an earth element.

As elements are believed to be the fundamental roots of the universe where interactions occur, take a leap of luck and find out the best destination for your element, so you can satisfy that #wanderlust. Zuji Singapore has compiled a list of destinations below.

1. Element: Earth; Destination: Northern Territory, Australia

The Northern Territory is home to miles of breathtaking earthy landscapes that's steeped in indigenous culture.

Apart from the gorgeous green gem that is tropical Kakadu with its biodiverse nature reserves and wetlands, you should aim to make a pit-stop at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, which is at the heart of Australia's Red Centre.

Bring your trekking boots and get cracking on exploring the crevices of icons such as the ancient monolith, Uluru - thought to have started forming over 550 million years ago, or the Kata Tjuta - which refer to the large prehistoric rock formations sacred to the Anangu Aboriginal people.

2. Element: Water; Destination: Maldives

Think sandy white beaches and azure waters teeming with tropical fish, and Maldives immediately springs to mind.

This ornate archipelago of over a thousand islands is a beach lover's dream with its idyllic coasts, not to mention an aquatic lover's paradise.

Time to find Nemo!

Below the luxury resorts dotting the shores lies an abundance of marine life going about their business amidst the alluring coral reefs on display.

Popular amongst diving enthusiasts, these waters are perfect if you're thinking of swimming with manta rays and sharks.

These ocean giants, backed by terraces of corals, shipwrecks and other interesting marine life, make this the perfect Water destination.

Take a bite out of the Big Apple and head over to this metropolis, which ranks as one of the most culturally important cities in the world.

Part of the dizzying beauty of NYC is the juxtaposition of buildings from periods across time.

Indeed, this city of dreams is home to numerous architecturally acclaimed landmarks: Think metal mammoths like the instantly recognisable Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and Rockefeller Center.

Honourable mention must go to two other wonders - the grand and looming Brooklyn Bridge and its beloved city skyline, seen in countless movies and TV shows.

4. Element: Fire; Destination: Iceland

While you would think Iceland is all about well, ice, it actually has a lot of affinity with fire - in the form of volcanoes.

The great expanse is home to almost 200 volcanoes.

Fun fact: The accolade for the highest peak of Iceland goes to the colossal Hvannadalshnúkur, on the ice-covered volcano of Öræfajökull.

Towering over everything in its wake, a plethora of active and dormant volcanoes will make for a dramatic Instagram backdrop, what with all the warm lava and craters dotting the plains.

Off the beaten track, you'll find hidden valleys of yet more hot volcanoes amidst graceful glaciers - a sign, perhaps, that fire always burns bright.
