When you think of travelling overseas, perhaps the usual destinations like Tokyo, Paris, New York and Shanghai come to mind.

Instead, check out these travel destinations that could be unheard of but they are paradises on earth.

1. Huacachina, Peru

Ever tried sand boarding? In this desert oasis, you finally can.

Located five hours south of Lima, the desert oasis Huacachina is home to an extraordinary adventure tour called the dune buggy and sandboarding tour.

2. Isolla Bella, Italy

In the middle of this lake, there is a blossoming garden and a palace.

It appears like a floating ship on the blue waters of the Lake Maggiore, which is a long, thin lake on the south side of the Alps, shared by Italy’s Piedmont and Lombardy regions and Switzerland’s Ticino canton.    

Visiting the island will bring you back to a day in a long-gone era. 

3. Blagaj, Bosnia & Herzegoniva

It has been described as a haven for peace and natural harmony. But it is so much more than that.

It is a natural habitat for around 170 types of birds and home to a glorious monastery built for the Dervish cults.

4. Island of Flores, Portugal

A paradise of bountiful wildflowers, natural hot springs and lagoon, the island is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.

5. The Silfra Fissure, Iceland

It is not every day that you get to swim between two continents in one place, in one day.

While there are many like it, this fissure is the most beautiful, interesting and accessible, according to its offical website.

6. Dong Chuan Red Land, China

Known for its striking red soil, Dong Chuan Red Land has been well-liked by backpackers and photographers alike.

According to this website, the best period to visit would be May to June or September to November.

7. Popeye village, Malta

Remember Popeye the sailor man? This paradise was the film set of the 1980 musical production - and it has since grown into a charming tourist attraction where you can visit in most seasons. 

8. Casteluccio di Norcia, Italy

This small town is famous for its gorgeous display of flowers in the summer.

In spring/ summer seasons, you can go on a horseback ride through the mountains of Sibillini National Park or go paragliding or hang gliding. 

In winter, you can ski or snowshoe.
