HONG KONG - The Disneyland theme park in Hong Kong will offer a new Star Wars-themed attraction, ahead of the summer holiday and the opening of Shanghai's Disneyland in mainland China.
This is part of a plan to boost visitor numbers amid growing regional competition and declining enthusiasm among mainland tourists.
The new offerings, expected to launch on June 11, will feature an entertainment zone where Star Wars fans can wear a Rebel pilot costume. Children can also join a 'training programme' by Jedi Knights, the heroes in the movie series.
Kelly Willis, director of creative development of Walt Disney Imagineering at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, said life-sized characters and collectibles will be available for purchase, along with more than 230 Star Wars-themed merchandise products and some 60 food items.
To complete the experience, visitors will have a chance to build their own lightsabers - the iconic laser swords wielded by Star Wars characters.
