Qatar has announced today that it will allow visa-free entry for citizens of 80 countries. This visa waiver takes effect immediately, said Qatar's Ministry of Interior and Qatar Tourism Authority.
Singaporeans previously either could apply for business visa in advance or visa-on-arrival. They could also apply for a complimentary stopover visa in advance of their travel to Doha.
With the current waiver initiative, there is no need for Singapore citizens to apply in advance or pay additional visa fee when they visit or stopover in Doha.
Citizens from the 80 countries wishing to visit Qatar will no longer need to apply or pay for a visa.
Instead, a multi-entry waiver will be issued for free at the port of entry. A valid passport with a minimum validity of six months and a confirmed onward or return ticket must be presented.
Depending on the nationality of the visitor, the waiver will either be valid for 180 days or 30 days from date of issue.
visitors can apply for tourist and visitor visas on the e-visa platform at www.qatarvisaservice.com.
These developments comes as part of a series of measures that Qatar has taken to facilitate visitor access to the country.
Qatar is also considering waiving visa requirements for holders of a residence permit or a valid visa from the Gulf nations, UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or the Schengen countries.
Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker said: “Today’s announcement places the State of Qatar as the most open country in the region.
"This is a momentous occasion for Qatar, making the number of nationalities eligible to enter our country without a visa the highest in region, which is something that we are very proud of."
