PETALING JAYA - Wanita MCA wants the authorities to apprehend the "Thaipusam Spraying Group" and file charges against them.

Its chairman Datuk Heng Seai Kee said Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) must not only shut down the Facebook page but also investigate with the police to file charges against the page creator, Henry Barnabas, for threatening public security and sedition.

"The police merely asking the advocates of violence to 'pray instead of spray' is insufficient. It doesn't prevent violence against women," said Heng in a statement yesterday.

The Facebook group had warned Hindu women to expect being sprayed with paint should they be "inappropriately dressed" at Thaipusam events.

"Thaipusam Spraying Group" page creator Barnabas posted pictures revealing the backs of women in different designer saree blouses.

She said Barnabas' action reeks of vigilantism which if left unchecked could lead to attacks on women.

Heng said 4,000 cases of domestic violence recorded by Hospital Kuala Lumpur from January to October of last year was staggering.

She said modern-minded Malaysians should not tolerate any form of violence against women or men.
