KOTA TINGGI: Five people, including a woman, face the death penalty after they were charged with the murder of a man late last year.
The accused, Md Ropi Puteh, 53, Abu Bakar Mahamad, 38, Mohd Fardli Johana, 33, Mohd Najib Zohari, 31, and Siti Syariza Ibrahim, 24, were charged Monday with committing the offence together with another person who is still at large.
They allegedly murdered one Md Az'ari Sain, 39, between 11pm on Nov 29, 2016, and 9.50am on Dec 4, 2016, in Tanjung Buai waters.
No plea was recorded after the charge was read to them before magistrate Mazana Sinin.
The accused were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and if found guilty, can be sentenced to death.
Mazana set Feb 16 for next mention pending post-mortem, forensics and chemistry reports.
One of the accused, Mohd Fardli from Kampung Tanjung Serindit, was also charged with three counts of drug offences in the same court.
In the first charge, he allegedly distributed 206gm of heroin at a hut beside a pond in Kampung Muhibbah here at around 2.40am on Dec 20 last year.
He was also charged with possessing 6.18gm of methamphetamine and 4.4gm of ganja at the same time and place.
Mohd Fardil pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
DPP Suhaila Shafi'uddin prosecuted the case while the accused were unrepresented.
