50-year-old HK model Candy Lo: I'm not a kept woman

After publishing her sizzling pictorial book, "Timeless", 50-year-old former model Candy Lo has been a talking point in Hong Kong and around the globe. Photos of her stunning figure which belie her true age have even made it to the British and Japanese media, My Paper reported.

At a book-signing event a few days ago, Lo remarked that for someone her age to enjoy a second wind in her career is a 'miracle', and revealed her plans to embark on a singing career next.

Lo, who was a Miss Asia pageant winner in 1991, commented "now everyone knows I am 50", and noted that it is a "huge test" to get into showbiz after going past the half-century mark. But she is determined to get herself a mentor and pick up the skill, and promised that she "won't show herself" if she's not good enough.

Lo also expressed her gratitude to her 75-year-old mum, who was present at the event.

Blinking away tears, Lo said: "Three years ago, I packed my bags and brought my three sons back to my mum's home. She was very worried about our future at that time, but I could only cry wordlessly in front of her. Mum just said 'if there's rice we'll eat rice, if there's only porridge, we'll have porridge'. So my small achievement now is also thanks to her."

Lo and her kids have since moved out of her mother's apartment, and into a luxury home in the Kowloon Tong area, Sohu.com reported.

However, Lo refuted reports that she is a kept woman, saying: "My youngest son is growing up and I hope to give him more space."

She added that such negative reports may scare away potential suitors. "Although I have several suitors now, but I'm afraid some may have been scared off. If I'm really a kept woman, I don't have to work so hard."
