Local swimwear label K.BLU is among the few swimwear labels designed with Asian women in mind.
After 12 years of working as a banker, Ms Lyn Sia Rosmarin started the label last year out of her own frustration with swimwear shopping.
"I felt that Western brands didn't fit Asian women well. For instance, the bikini bottom would fit all right, but the top would always be too big for me," says the 36-year-old outdoor activity buff, who enjoys sailing, golf and cycling.
Her designs have thicker cup moulds to help enhance the smaller Asian busts, and offers coverage for the bottom.
One-piece swimsuits are a staple of the brand and they are far from dowdy. There are designs with sheer panels for women who want to show off some skin and yet have coverage at the same time.
"In this part of the world, some women are still quite conservative, so I felt that the one-piece swimsuit would sell well," says the mother of a 19-month-old girl.
The brand, which is available at www.kblu.com, also has bikinis and kaftans. Items are made in China using Italian fabrics.
Prices range from $75 for a bikini bottom to $350 for a one-piece swimsuit.
Ms Sia Rosmarin named the brand K.BLU after her daughter, Kenzi, and her love for blue, which is apparent from the number of blue items in her handbag. It is no coincidence that her designs are also mostly in blue.
"I'm so crazy about blue that, initially, I bought only blue baby clothes, so everyone who saw Kenzi thought she was a boy," says Ms Sia Rosmarin, who is married to an Australian.
But she plans on going beyond her comfort zone so her upcoming collection will feature other colours.
The self-taught designer has set another task for herself to accomplish this year and that is to get to know other local designers.
"I've been so busy with swimwear that I haven't had a chance to make friends with designers who do other sort of garments. I think I have a lot to learn from them," she says.
