Spring is here! Well, it will be in stores sometime this month, but it's never too early to get a headstart on your arm candy.
You really can't have too many handbags, and while I'm a firm advocate of investing in classics, every season brings something new, so even if you can't or won't get a new bag this season, you can have some fun looking at the selections on these pages.
Texture, materials and details are a big deal this season, and colours even more so. It was really hard narrowing it down to one bag per brand, as some brands had several gorgeous pieces, but I kept it to the key bags. And in one or two cases, because it stood out.
Dior, for example, had beautiful applique flowers scattered all over the Miss Dior bag, making it the perfect example of a spring bag. Fendi's Dotcom bag also went for applique flowers but on a lesser, but nevertheless, still sweetly pretty way
Another interesting bag is Tod's Double T bag with studs and different coloured overlapping jagged leather strips.
For more classic pieces, there's Giorgio Armani's Le Sac, a top handle bag that will fit seamlessly in your wardrobe, Coach's Saddle bag, a beautiful leather piece with a vintage vibe and Mulberry's Kite bag, named because it's supposed to reflect the structure of a kite that moves freely.
The rather romantically named The Concertina from Paul Smith has side panels of contrasting colours. And yes, it was inspired by tango performances, or specifically, the pleats of a bandoneon concertina. Versace, too, has a more structured piece called the Palazzo Empire, just the bag with which to stride through the concrete jungle. And as always, the Medusa head plays a significant position, it's front and centre and tone-on-tone in contrast to the rest of the bag.
If you prefer boxy shapes, there's the MCM Berlin, with its gold panel details, Chanel's square number in black and white tweed with plexiglass chain, and colour blocking par excellence from Roger Vivier. Kate Spade New York also has a gorgeous clutch, the Bee clasp clutch in black and gold with an adorable bee clasp on top.
Givenchy rolls out the unusually- shaped Pandora bag with a chain while Saint Laurent is all decadent charm in gold with black tassels in the delightfully-named Opium bag.
As usual, Moschino had the quirkiest elements and I was really tempted to put in a bag shaped like the orange street cones, because it immediately makes me think of our highways, but I really doubt anyone in KL wants to think road hazards when looking at their bags! So instead I chose one that had tools hanging down the front. Just in case someone tries to mug you, grab that wrench and use it (in style, of course).
Finally, Anya Hindmarch, who's also known for fun and quirky bags, has the too-cute All Over Stickers Georgiana clutch with one of the stickers saying, "Bags have feelings too!" We hear you!
Whether you prefer a pop of colour, a little fun or want to go the more classic route, you can't deny that this season looks to be a strikingly vibrant one!
