Art or trash?

Art or trash?

A giant dildo, a vibrator given by a fan and an "ultimate party hat" with an iPod player stuck to it along with illicit substances.

Miley Cyrus has turned these items into "art" and got them on the New York Fashion Week runway show.

These items have joined other similarly colourful, bizarre structures put together by Cyrus that are on display at V magazine's offices' gallery in New York City since yesterday.

But first, some pieces from her art collection called Dirty Hippie, made its debut at US fashion designer Jeremy Scott's New York Fashion Week show on Wednesday.

In front of guests such as comedienne Whoopi Goldberg, rapper 2 Chainz and actress Bella Thorne, models strutted the runway decked out in Scott's vibrant Spring/Summer 2015 collection and Cyrus' handmade jewellery and headpieces.

The accessories were made of items that Cyrus, 21, had received from fans during her Bangerz tour, purchased from supermarkets or from airports.

Leis, fake flowers, baubles, car air fresheners - you will see them all.

The display of creations is truly baffling.

They resemble Polly Pocket items once famous among girls in the past - just a whole lot weirder and definitely NSFK (Not Safe For Kids).

Oh, and definitely not art.

This is the latest in a string of surprising antics from the US singer.

Cyrus recently made headlines for her ice cream nipple pasties at designer Alexander Wang's top-secret New York Fashion Week party, shortly after she revealed her campaign for homeless youth in Los Angeles during this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

For the controversial young star, being creative helps her cope with her tumultuous year.

"At the beginning of this year, I hated 2014 because everything that could go wrong kept going wrong," she told V Magazine.

"Being in the hospital, my dog dying... So, that's how I started making art. I had a bunch of... junk and s***, and so instead of letting it be junk and s***, I turned it into something that made me happy."

Scott had a role to play in her weird collection.

"Jeremy brought a lot of peace and self worth to me because even though to some people, it was just me gluing some things together, to me, it made me not a... pop star dumbass. And that's my goal in life - to not die a pop pop dumb dumb," she said in the same interview.

A party on July 4 at Cyrus' home had kickstarted their collaboration.

"I'd just been to the 99 cents store, went a little crazy and started hot gluing everything," she told MTV News after the fashion show.

She also admitted to spending some US$2,000 (S$2,500) at a Walmart store on items for her sculpture.

STYLE

For Scott, her creations matched his style perfectly. He had told V: "We're on the same wavelength - it's like a psychedelic jungle. I love that there's a DIY feel to the sculptures, which is a part of the look of the show."

It's an odd pairing.

There's Cyrus, resident wild child trying to do good and completely unafraid of the limelight. And there's Scott, who designs for Moschino and is infamous for his unconventional style.

The fast friends have now deemed themselves best buddies.

Cyrus, who had attended the show in a Paddle Pop-coloured bralet and colourful harem pants, had made matching necklaces for herself and Scott, who called it his "favourite" item in her collection.

"This is so he'll never forget me - (they include) BFF air fresheners!" Cyrus said.

And perhaps the pair have indeed reached BFF status after the memorable runway show.

Both took to their personal Instagram accounts to post endless photos of the show and with each other.

"ALL MILES WHEN IM WITH MILEZZZ !!!" was the caption accompanying a photo of the pair on the runway, while a previous photo of them together had him declaring his love for her.

Meanwhile, Cyrus, called the occasion the "best day of (her) life".

Her wild art experiment probably does not end here - Cyrus has jokingly hinted at "2 #dirtyhippie Chainz for 2 chainzzzzz".

Somebody, tell her to stop.

Artists who rock the runway

KANYE WEST (2011)

Usually a front-row regular at fashion shows, the US rapper and husband of Kim Kardashian took to the runway to debut his fashion line, DW Kanye West, at the Paris Fashion Week.

The ready-to-wear collection is a tribute to his late mother, Donda, who died in 2007 following complications from a cosmetic surgery.

The wildly-hyped show received mix reviews, with some critics dubbing it "painful" and mocking some ill-fitting pieces.

Daily Mail attacked his fashion sense, calling his view of women "dubious and out of date, given so much skin tight leather and bondage whips".

LADY GAGA (2009)

Her hit song, Bad Romance, made its debut at the Paris Fashion Week as models strutted the catwalk during Alexander McQueen's show.

Lady Gaga later wore the killer Armadillo heels from the collection in the music video for the song.
