The British interior designer, who is known for her zen decorating style and fondness for a neutral palette, has been recognised by the industry with multiple awards and was appointed an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in 2009.

Born in South Africa, Ms Hoppen was in Singapore last month to launch a line of bathware with Australian brand Apaiser at decor show Maison & Objet.

She has shared her design expertise across many genres, including design books. She also appeared on BBC Two's Dragon Den - a show where entrepreneurs pitched their ideas for investment - as one of the venture capitalists.

Her work extends from private to commercial projects, including hotels, restaurants, offices and aircraft. Her celebrity clients include David and Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow and Anthony Hopkins.

1. What is the one beauty product you cannot step out of the house without?

My perfume, Yves Saint Laurent's Opium. I've worn it since I was 16 years old. I can't bear not to have that smell. There isn't a day when someone doesn't mention it. It evokes lots of memories for people as well.

2. What is your must-have grooming session?

Probably my hair. Magda from 10500 hair salon looks after my hair. The products I use are all organic, from Kevin Murphy. I'm about to produce my own collection of hair products actually. It'll be out later this year.

3. What, in your opinion, is the best beauty invention?

Oxygen facials. I swear by them. I have one every month, at Linda Meredith salon in London. They just seem to plump up your skin.

4. What is the most ridiculous thing you have done in the name of beauty?

Once, I went and put on boots that inflate and massage. I felt like such an idiot but I had water retention. I think it was in France. I just felt really claustrophobic. They did work, though.

5. Share a beauty tip with us.

You need to drink loads of water and it's really about what you eat. I eat extremely well and drink lots of water.

I work with an Indian doctor and he takes care of me using supplements, acupuncture and cupping, too. I'm quite holistic in the things I do.
