The Haryana government has decided to extend the benefits of welfare schemes applicable to families with two daughters to the third daughter as well.

Registered workers with three girls can expect education coverage, support for their nutrition and school supplies.

Rs51,000 (S$1120.1) will also be provided upon the marriage of the three daughters instead of just two.

This is part of a measure to improve the sex ratio in the state, which ranks among the worst in India according to the 2011 census.

The ratio stood at 877 women to every 1,000 men.
