Beyonce's mum writes letter in praise of her kids

This Mother's Day, it was this mother's celebrity children who had the biggest smiles.

In an emotion-filled open letter to Time magazine's website, Tina Knowles (above, right), the mother of Beyonce (right) and Solange wrote of how wonderful her children were.

She also included her niece Angela Beyince and Beyonce's ex-Destiny Child's bandmate Kelly Rowland in her praise.

"I gave birth to two of you, but I have four incredible daughters," Tina Knowles, 61, wrote.

"Writing this brought to mind all the ways you guys have been such a blessing to me."

She also made reference to her divorce from Beyonce's and Solange's father, Matthew, in 2011.

"I remember slumber parties after my divorce, when we watched old movies and ate a lot of ice cream. The roles were reversed, and it was ME who needed nurturing."

Ms Knowles spoke of each of her daughters with warmth.

COMPASSIONATE

She wrote: "Beyonce, I wish people could see how you are when you're not in front of the camera or on the stage. How compassionate and kind you are to people, how you look them right in the eye when you speak to them.

"Yes, you are a huge star, but you have somehow managed to stay grounded and humble in the wake of all your success."

Of Solange as her "rebel warrior" she wrote: "You truly are your own incredible, unapologetic person. As tough as you are, you will drop everything to take care of someone you love."

She called ex-bandmate Rowland, who moved in with the Knowles family at age 11, as "the sweetest, most kind person I had ever met and... still are."

She also lauded Beyonce as "our own family fixer" and likened her to Olivia Pope, a character on TV show Scandal.

Ms Knowles ended by writing about her recent wedding to actor Richard Lawson: "It was at my recent wedding, when all four of you said in your own words that I taught by example and that I helped to make you the women you are today."
