A bizarre group-dating event in east China's Hangzhou city, involving over 30,000 people, has sparked outrage online.

According to CCTVNews, many have accused the event of degrading women.

China Foto Press reported on Saturday that the female participants were required to first wash off all the makeup from their faces, quoting the organizers as saying that this would allow the men to find their partners without judging them based on their appearances.

However, that statement rang quite hollow with what followed next, as the men were asked to measure the chest sizes of the female participants whom they would likely want to date.

The day-long event also saw the participants play a series of games, such as tug-of-war in water.

Netizens felt that this had nothing to do with the aim of the event, which was to help people find love.

One wrote, "Well, in this sense, I suggest men should show their property and income documents."

"Does this mean women's faces and boobs are important?", questioned another.
