Fairy-tale weddings which have enchanted us

With castles and churches as a picturesque backdrop, Mandopop king Jay Chou and his bride model Hannah Quinlivan tied the knot in a storybook wedding.

In recent years, these are the fairy-tale nuptials which captured our hearts.

1. Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011

It does not get any grander than a royal wedding and around 300 million people around the world were glued to the proceedings at the stately Westminster Abbey. Every detail was pored over from the bridal dress by London-based designer Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen to the wedding ring made from Welsh gold. The wedding day was declared as a public holiday throughout the United Kingdom.

2. Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Carina Lau in 2008

This was the wedding that put Bhutan, and the luxurious Uma Paro resort, on the map. Among the guests was feted singer Faye Wong, who performed for the couple on their special day. The ceremony was the culmination of a relationship that began in 1989 and it set off a media frenzy in Hong Kong.

3. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in 2014

First came the children and then came marriage. Touchingly, Jolie's wedding veil was covered in drawings by the couple's six children as they were reportedly the ones who convinced the two of them to just tie the knot already. Brangelina, who are pretty much Hollywood royalty, got married at their estate Chateau Miraval in Correns, France.

4. George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin in 2014

He was one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors while she is an accomplished human rights lawyer. They said "I do" at a romantic ceremony in Venice with the ravishing bride in an off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta lace wedding dress and the dapper groom in a tuxedo by Giorgio Armani.

5. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in 2014

When the pre-wedding bash is held at the stunning Palace of Versailles, the ceremony has much to live up to. As expected of a reality TV star, the proceedings at the 16th century Fort di Belvedere in Florence last May were aired during the finale of the ninth season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The couple had earlier appeared on the cover of American Vogue magazine in April with the caption #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple.
