Fall leaves Miss Slovenia partially paralysed

The flubbed crowning wasn't the only plot twist at this year's Miss Universe pageant.

In a taped segment of the show, it was revealed that there would have been 81 contestants, but Miss Slovenia, Ana Halozan, had to pull out of the competition shortly after she arrived in Las Vegas after a serious fall that left her in hospital.

Her roommate, Miss Slovak Republic, Denisa Vysnovska, said she found the 19-year-old in the bathroom having what seemed like an epileptic seizure.

Blood had dripped from Miss Halozan's nose and onto the floor.

When asked if she was okay, Miss Halozan fell to the floor and was later taken to hospital.

PARALYSED

The severity of Miss Halozan's condition became clear when she regained consciousness and realised that the right side of her face was paralysed.

Speaking to the camera in a taped interview shown on the screens, she said: "I came here like everybody and it all stopped within seconds. How did this happen to me? All I did was do my best and this had to happen now. When they said I can't go to the pageant, I asked: 'Are you joking?'. I am going."

Miss Halozan is expected to recover, but it will take time.

She added: "I told (my family and friends), don't cry for me, I am okay, don't worry."

Dressed in a red gown, Miss Halozan then appeared on stage after the brief segment and walked across it after last year's Miss Universe Paulina Vega handed her a bouquet.

Miss Lisa Marie White told The New Paper: "I didn't know about the incident but I admire and respect Ana so much. I am happy that she was still given the chance to walk on the Miss Universe stage. That was amazing."

Miss Nuraliza Osman said: "When she came out, everyone in the auditorium was crying. They were so moved by her strength."
