Thomas Wee has been in the industry for nearly 40 years.

In October last year, he was awarded the Singapore Design Golden Jubilee Award for his achievements and contributions over the past 50 years.

Tell us about your work.

I love the engineering of a 'designer garment'. Over time, I believe I have evolved to create designs that are current, modern and cutting-edge.

My passion in fashion starts at the cutting table. I always challenge myself to create beautiful designs by stripping down the 'excess' and concentrating on what makes them interesting. That way, my designs look 'effortless' - what I call 'couture' without embellishment.

What's your latest collection?

Under a new label, ThomasWee White, it's an all-white collection of womenswear coordinates comprising shirts, blouses and blousons, teamed with straight long loose-cut trousers and cut-offs, slim capris and ankle-length full circular skirts for today's women.

What guides you when you make your collections?

When I design, I always imagine myself as a fashionable customer. Therefore, I am practically designing clothes that I want to buy and wear if I were a woman.

Peter Kor is known for his oriental-inspired contemporary wear.

Over the decades, he has been a trailblazer in the fashion business, witnessing the ever-changing face of local fashion while keeping true to his core identity and design sensibilities.

What is the difference between the ready-to-wear line, Peter Kor, and the more exclusive Peter Kor Signature?

Peter Kor is for the everyday modern woman who is going places and believes in always looking her best. It comprises stylish, sensible and accessible work wear, day-to-evening dresses, little black dresses and modern cheongsams.

They are created in limited quantities per style, made with natural fibre or stretchable silk with custom prints. High-quality tailoring but with easy maintenance. Prices range from $199 to $499.

Peter Kor Signature is a bespoke collection for special occasions and cocktail events. They are personalised statement pieces - expect high-quality pieces with couture finishing. Prices usually start from $799 onwards.

What keeps you inspired through the years?

I am fortunate to be able to do something I enjoy. I am always delighted to see my customers step out of the fitting room with a new air of confidence.

Peter Kor's boutique is at 15, Purvis Street
