A recent poll of Singaporeans found that 56 per cent said they went to shops most often for their shopping for non-food items.

Only 30 per cent indicated they bought online using desktops or laptops most frequently, and 14 per cent on mobile devices.

I am a fan of physical shops and rarely check out my purchases online. But I decided to give two local online shopping sites a try, and see if the 30 per cent in that survey have something going.

I can appreciate the effort of going through piles of old clothes to pick the items. A vintage lover will see the intricate details that can no longer be seen on today's run-of-the-mill productions.

Fit: Fitting is not going to be that accurate because these are unique pieces.

Quality: Expect a little imperfection.

The idea is to move the store experience into the customer's home.

They ship a personalised selection of clothes picked by an in-house team of stylists. The customer is given a few days to try on the clothes in the comfort of their home and is charged only for the ones they decide to keep.

I registered with a credit card and indicated the preferred style of shirts, pants and footwear, the choice of patterns and colours, and the price range in each category. Then I input the height and weight, and the choice of preferred fits.

I gave it a go, and typed "casual" in the comments section.

My box arrived within five days, and I was charmed by the little tag with my name on it.

Thumbs up to the stylist who picked the outfits. They were casual and unpretentious.

Fit: I was happy that all the pieces fit pretty well.

Quality: Surprise! Some items are known labels. Fabrication and workmanship surpassed expectations.

Delivery: They contacted me to ensure I was available when they delivered. Delivery is free, with no minimum purchase required.

Returns: To make a return, log on and indicate the items you wish to return, date and address, and they will make an arrangement to do a pick up at no additional cost.
