After three days of shining a spotlight on style (and partying), the Mercedes-Benz Stylo Asia Fashion Festival 2016 ended with a colourful showcase of the region's designers, followed by an awards presentation.

The night took place at Zouk Kuala Lumpur, where it was billed as a grand climax for this year's edition of Stylo. Amongst those in attendance were dignitaries, socialites, celebrities and more.

"Mercedes-Benz is proud to stand hand-in-hand with Stylo throughout this year's festival as we continue to support the Malaysian and Asian fashion industry, and the creative people who make it all happen," said Mark Raine, vice president of sales and marketing for Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

Datuk Nancy Yeoh, president and CEO of Stylo International, added: "Through Stylo's partnership with Mercedes-Benz, we hope to encourage and promote more undiscovered Asian fashion talents to the global fashion arena."

Fashion designers from Bhutan, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan and Malaysia opened the event with creations that combined both heritage and modernity. House of Chimmi Design for example, used rich and complex Bhutanese textiles to great effect.

While Artina (Indonesia) and Sumate Classic Of Models (Thailand) incorporated the traditional aethetics from their countries of origin into their designs, Shairose Exclusive Outfits (Pakistan) sent out ready-to-wear pieces that were more contemporary in feel.

Malaysia's own Keith Kee and Edric Ong presented two very different facets of fashion, as well. Ong played around with natural colours reminiscent of the rainforest and Kee fashioned glamorous gowns that spoke of an urban edge.

There was also a creative shoe showcase by the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers Association and local shoe designer Nelissa Hilman, plus an absolutely over-the-top tribute to late pop-rock icon David Bowie by reigning winner of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz Stylo Designer of the Year, Fairuz Ramdan.

When it comes to honouring Stylo's pick of the best, four awards were handed out to deserving winners. Shah Efron and Gao Min Sun both won the title of Model of the Year 2016 for the male and female categories respectively.

Efron received his award from Cher Ng, executive director of Zouk KL, and Gao, Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, group managing director and chief executive officer of Star Media Group Bhd.

This was followed by Raine presenting Kee with the Best Showcase Designer of the Year 2016 award.

The Stylo Global Fashion Influencer Asia 2016 title, presented to a fashion icon, who through his or her involvement in fashion has helped put Malaysia on the international map, went to Ong.

Ong, a veteran of the Malaysian fashion industry, is well known for his creative use of hand-woven silks and cottons. He received his award from Datuk Jimmy Choo, who is the honorary advisor of Stylo AFF, together with Dr Claus Weidner, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

Partners and sponsors of the Mercedes-Benz Stylo Asia Fashion Festival 2016 include Zouk KL, A Cut Above Group & Academy, the Malaysian Hairdressing Association, the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers Association, Empro Cosmetics and Diva Productions.
