HK actress Myolie Wu denies marriage plans, but gushes about new boyfriend

Hong Kong actress Myolie Wu is in love, and it shows on her face.
The 35-year-old TVB star, who was in town to promote her new drama Every Step You Take, appeared relaxed and exuded a radiant glow at an interview with The New Paper yesterday.
She smiled when asked about her new boyfriend, saying in Mandarin: "He isn't in Singapore with me. I wanted him to come, but the schedule is too rushed."
Wu has been dating Hong Kong businessman Philip Lee, 40, for almost six months, after being single for two years.
The pair were first spotted last December attending a charity ball together. They were snapped kissing in Taiwan a month later.
Unlike how she was during her eight-year relationship with Hong Kong TVB actor Bosco Wong, which ended in 2012, Wu did not attempt to hide her current romance.
Both parties have met each other's parents, but Wu denied that they are walking down the aisle soon.
"It's been reported that he has proposed to me three times and we are getting married at the end of this year. Don't believe the reports," she said candidly,
"If he has proposed, where is my ring?"
Wu, whose ring finger was bare, added: "The media tends to be more anxious than I am when it comes to my love life. If I start dating someone, they will ask me when am I getting married. If I get married, they will ask me when am I giving birth."
Wu said she would announce the good news if and when it happens.
She said: "I am not the kind who will get married secretly. It's good news, I will be open about it."
She also refuted reports that Mr Lee wants her to quit showbiz after they marry, saying that he has always supported her in her acting career.
Said Wu: "Usually, he doesn't interfere with my work. If he is against me working in the entertainment industry, he wouldn't have dated an actress in the first place."
When asked what she liked most about Lee, she smiled and said: "I don't mind the media knowing that I am dating him, but I don't want everyone to keep focusing on him. It's better to leave some things unsaid and let there be some mystery."
NO HURRY
Even though there is no hurry to get married and start a family now, Wu feels she is ready for motherhood.
She spoke of how she took care of a year-old baby ape while filming a variety programme in China recently.
She said: "That gave me the confidence to be a mother. I believe that I can do it. We only live once, of course I hope to have kids in the future."
Wu, who was in good spirits, was the complete opposite of how this reporter remembered her during an interview a few years ago.
Back then, she appeared serious and was guarded about her personal life.
Wu put her more carefree demeanour down to the maturity that comes with growing older.
"In the past, I was a workaholic. I was always quite tense and didn't let go," she said,
"Now that I've become more mature, I am learning to enjoy life more as well. I am spending more time with my family and friends these days."
She wore blindfold at home for role
In her new drama, Every Step You Take, Myolie Wu plays a strong career woman who becomes blind after a car accident.
She then plunges into depression, until her boyfriend (played by Moses Chan) helps her to get back on track.
To prepare for the role, Wu visited a centre for the blind in Hong Kong to learn how the visually impaired took care of themselves.
At home, she wore a blindfold to cook, fold blankets and do other chores.
When she was out, she listened intently and became more sensitive to the beeping sounds of the traffic lights.
Wu also worked with two dogs on set - one a real guide dog and the other a substitute.
She said: "It was interesting to find out how the two dogs had completely different characters.
"The substitute dog loved to eat and was very emotional. The real guide dog was very calm and collected. It was great having them around."
The series is set to air on TVB First (StarHub TV Ch 860) later this year
