Following a refreshing trend that began a few seasons back, grey-haired divas and silver foxes continue to grace the pages of fashion magazines all over the world.
From Jessica Lange for Marc Jacobs and Helen Mirren for L'Oreal, to Charlotte Rampling for Nars and Neil Young for Supreme, senior celebrities are a big hit with international fashion and beauty brands these days.
In Asia, Hong Kong movie and TV icon Helena Law is one of 18 models featured by YSL Beaute HK to promote its latest product, the Vernis à Lèvres or Glossy Stain Pop Water. The campaign - Pop Up Your Lips - was created by the cosmetics brand's Hong Kong division and will culminate in the official launch party of the product this weekend.
The brand has been teasing fans with clips and snippets of the campaign on its social media accounts since April. Actress-singer Karen Mok's picture was the first to be unveiled on April 27, followed by the other 17 personalities over the next few days.
Law's picture, unveiled April 29, has received numerous comments from online users praising the actress.
Law - better known as Law Lan to many - turns 81 in November and is a surprising yet wonderful addition to the list, which features mostly young women and an actor, Gregory Wong. Some fans do claim to have expected her involvement in the campaign, thanks her penchant for dressing up as fashion icons. In 2012 Law transformed herself into Karl Lagerfeld.
Born in 1934, Law has been in the entertainment business since the 1950s and has appeared in hundreds of movies and TV shows, and is well known for her roles as a ghost or a "scary old woman".
One of her more popular characters is the Dragon Granny (Lung Por) in the movie Thou Shalt Not Swear (1994). For her role - again, as a grandma - in the 2000 film Bullets Over Summer, Law won her first best actress nod in both the Hong Kong Film Awards and Hong Kong Critics Society Awards.
In 2002, she received a Lifetime Achievement award in the TVB Anniversary Awards.
The YSL Pop Up Your Lips Hong Kong campaign also features Venus Chow, Joyce Cheng, Chrissie Chau, August Zhang, Daisy Wong, Evelyn Choi, Denise Ho, Elva Ni, Helen To, Jessica C, Kathy Chow, Maria Tang, Miki Yeung, Shiga Lin, Vincci Cheuk and Zelia Zhong.
