First, get your basics right by choosing the right skincare, foundation and concealer.
Hydrated and plumped skin helps make-up to glide on more easily, and to stay on for longer. Even the best foundations will look patchy on dehydrated skin.
Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) Beaute's new Forever Youth Liberator Essence-In-Lotion (photo 1, $119) is made to be as light as a lotion, and as potent as a serum. It promises to recharge skin and to boost the efficacy of the potions which you apply on the skin afterwards. Gently pat the lotion onto clean skin with your fingertips or use a cotton pad.
Follow with serum, moisturiser, cream and for daytime, sunscreen as well.
The texture of the new Le Teint Encre De Peau foundation (photo 2, $89) is lightweight, and it leaves skin with a luminous matte finish. Like the brand's other base make-up, this foundation, which is fronted by model Cara Delevingne (photo 3), is meant to bring a glow to the face. It is neither dewy, nor so matte that it makes the skin look flat.
It promises to last up to 24 hours - requiring minimal touch-up throughout the day - by absorbing excess sebum while maintaining the skin's hydration levels. The applicator is shaped like a quill to pick up just enough of the foundation for the entire face. The formula blends easily, and a little bit goes a long way.
In Europe, there were apparently thousands of people on the waiting list for this foundation when it was launched a couple of months ago.
Mr Francis Lim, national make-up artist of YSL Beaute Singapore, suggests applying the foundation with warm fingers for a sheer and natural finish; and with a brush for more coverage.
To give the skin that extra luminosity, try the brand's renowned Touch Eclat highlighter pen (photo 4, $58). It dispenses a creamy formula which disappears easily into the skin, while highlighting the facial structure and the skin's texture.
This product serves many purposes. Besides using it to highlight the cheek bones, nose bridge and brow bones, one can also apply it on dark areas, such as under the eyes and the inner corners of the eyes to brighten them.
Just click the pen once, apply the formula on the areas you want to highlight, and tap it into the skin with the fingertips.
To further enhance the illusion of a bright and flawless complexion, just slick on some red lipstick.
Go for Yves Saint Laurent's signature Rouge Pur Couture in no.1 Le Rouge ($49), a fail-safe bright scarlet.
