Mandopop star Jay Chou and model wife Hannah Quinlivan are officially parents!

The couple reportedly welcomed a baby girl despite earlier speculation that they could be having a boy

This confirmation came after rumours that went around suggesting Quinlivan, 21, had given birth to a preterm baby by caesarean section, reported United Daily News.

The 36-year-old singer released the information through his manager J.R. Yang: "We had a daughter. Hannah and I are very happy."

Chou was so secretive about the birth of his first child that even his manager did not know of the news until he was prompted to find out when reporters asked him about the rumour.

However, the date of when the baby was born is unclear.

Conflicting reports put the baby's birth date on Sunday (July 12), and some even reported the baby was born last Friday (July 10).

Apple Daily earlier reported that the agent said that the child was born on July 12, but later retracted it.

Apple Daily and China Times, quoting Chou's relatives, reported that the baby was born on July 10.

One reason for the secrecy could be that it is customary for a celebrity baby birth in Taiwan and Hong Kong, to be accompanied by astrologers' predictions in the media.

Other details about the new baby, including the name, have not been revealed.

There are also no updates on the birth on the couple's social media accounts.

The couple recently celebrated their wedding anniversary in Taiwan on July 5, thus revealing that they had been legally married since last July. They held three spectacular wedding ceremonies in Britain, Australia and Taiwan in January.
