Jay Chou and Hannah Quinlivan hold $1 million fairy-tale wedding in England

Taiwanese superstar Jay Chou married his 21-year-old model girlfriend Hannah Quinlivan in a European-style wedding in Yorkshire, northern England, on Saturday afternoon.

True to his word on getting married at the age of 35, Chou's wedding was held on the eve of his 36th birthday, after meticulously planning to coincide his wedding in England with the midnight hour back in his hometown in Taipei.

The wedding ceremony took place in Selby Abbey, an 11th century-old church, and was attended by Chou's parents and 50 other family members and friends.

Apple Daily estimated the cost of the wedding at NT$23 million (S$1 million), and said it was the most extravagant wedding in Taiwanese entertainment.

United Daily News reported that Chou had composed a song specially for the ceremony and arranged for the string orchestra to play it during the wedding.

Veiled in much secrecy, Chou remained mum about the wedding venue until the actual day as guests were told to transfer at London for another flight to Yorkshire. The Straits Times reported that bridesmaid, actress Fion Sun, had inadvertently revealed the wedding location when she posted a photo of the hotel on Weibo, prompting the site to identify her location as "Feversham Arms Hotel & Verbena Spa Yorkshire".

According to JayneStars, Chou's and Quinlivan's "relationship was initially placed in a negative light due to their large age gap, [but] the two proved the strength of their relationship after four years of dating." Quinlivan was only 18 years old when she first dated the Mandopop king.

Chou had told China Times that he chose to marry Quinlivan because "being together for four years isn't an easy thing". He also added that "my mental age is about the same as hers and we just get along like children".

JayneStars also reported that the couple will host a wedding banquet in Taiwan around February or March, and another in Quinlivan's home country, Australia.

According to Focus Taiwan, Chou's company, JVR Music, released three pre-wedding photos on Saturday. The couple had travelled to France, Germany and the Czech Republic in October last year for the photo shoot. JVR Music also revealed that the couple had registered their marriage last year, but did not say if they signed the papers in Taiwan or another country.
