Lina Ng's sons take precedence over work

Former actress Lina Ng would rather play a supporting role in dramas these days so that she can have more time for her three young sons.

The 40-year-old, who has been a freelance actress for the past few years, will play a small role opposite Fann Wong in new StarHub drama series My Secret App.

Speaking to The New Paper, Ng, whose sons Jeriel, Joel and Samuel are 10, eight and three respectively, said: "I've been busy with being a full-time housewife and mum.

"I still love acting and hosting, but I select smaller roles so that they won't take up too much of my time."

She added: "I'll also choose dramas and variety shows which suit my schedule and match my availability."

DEBUT

Ng debuted in showbiz after coming in second in local talent search competition Star Search in 1993.

She is best known to local viewers as one of the hosts of popular variety television show City Beat in 1998, appearing alongside Kym Ng, Bryan Wong and Sharon Au.

Besides being busy with her family and her acting commitments now, Ng also runs a Mandarin-enrichment course for a few kids' centres in Singapore and teaches once a week.

With such a hectic schedule to keep up with, Ng admits that she has very little time for herself these days.

She said: "I also don't have that much time with my husband now, something which I consider very important."

Ng's husband, Mr Mike Lam, 44, is a boarding manager at the Singapore Sports School.

She said: "Nowadays, we go out only once a week. These are some of the small sacrifices I have to make."
