Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung, 34, has a new man in her life.
And it is none other than Singaporean entrepreneur Earn Chen, 41.
The pair was photographed enjoying a casual date at a Thai restaurant here last Saturday, together with Cheung's two sons, Quintus, four, and Lucas, seven, after Chen picked them up in his car.
Cheung, who divorced Hong Kong actor Nicholas Tse, 34, in 2011 after five years of marriage, relocated to Singapore with her sons late last year.
She reportedly got to know Chen in church earlier this year, after which he started to woo her for six months before winning her heart last month.
That was when news of Tse and Chinese singer Faye Wong reconciling after an 11-year separation made headlines in the region.
The news reportedly upset Cheung. Sources close to her said she cried every night and often complained about Tse not spending enough time with their two sons.
Chen, on the other hand, had been bonding with Quintus and Lucas by taking them on outings to Universal Studios Singapore and water parks, a Hong Kong publication, Sudden Weekly, reported.
Chen is a well-known figure in the local fashion and subculture scene. He is good friends with celebrities such as K-pop superstar G-Dragon.
He started in the fashion industry in 2001 and set up streetwear label Ambush in Far East Plaza.
In 2004, he co-founded underground multi-label fashion store Surrender before expanding it to the masses, opening a more commercialised store, Salon, at Marina Bay Sands.
Chen ventured into the food and business industry this year and serves as the creative director of Potato Head Folk, a Jakarta-based restaurant and lifestyle group.
NOT ONLY ONE
Cheung is not the only overseas star dating a Singaporean.
Last month, it was reported that Taiwanese Mandopop singer Elva Hsiao, 35, is dating wealthy Singaporean heir Elroy Cheo, 30.
Last year, Taiwan-based actress Charlie Young, 40, married Singaporean Khoo Shao Tze, 44, after an on-off relationship of 19 years.
Local male celebrities contacted by The New Paper agreed that Singaporean men have traits that women find desirable.
Home-grown actor Shane Pow, 24, said: "Singaporean men are generally well-educated, have sufficient spending power and are capable of giving our other halves a comfortable life."
"Although Singaporean men may not be as sensitive and romantic as those in other countries, I think the image that they portray to women is quite positive."
"Of course, being a local, I will say that Singaporean men are quite desirable."
