Loose but not sloppy

Oversized dresses can look chic with layering and the right accessories.

How do I wear an oversized dress without looking sloppy?

Loose-fitting dresses such as the menswear-inspired shirt dress, the T-shirt and the sweater dress are comfortable and easy to wear, but run the risk of looking baggy and sloppy when worn with the wrong accessories.

Fashion stylist Keith Png, 38, shares some tips.

Create definition: Cinch your waist with a belt to look shapely. Go for a wide belt or one with a statement buckle, rather than a skinny belt, especially if the dress material is thick, like a knitted dress.

Play with layers: Layer a shirt dress over wide-legged pants or a knee-length skirt. Undo the last few buttons to make the layered-look intentional.

You can also jazz up a plain T-shirt dress with coloured or printed stockings.

Show some skin: This will help to offset the the volume.

You do not want to look like you are being swallowed up by your dress. Opt for an off-shoulder, boat neck or V neckline or roll up the sleeves to highlight the slimmest part of your arm.

Accessorise: Wear your favourite statement accessories, bag and heels. Heeled boots are a great option for petite women.
