Mafia-inspired big day

Mafia-inspired big day

"Shanghai Tang" and "Young & Dangerous" was the theme for their wedding dinner.

Guests of local hip-hop duo SleeQ's Alif Abdullah, 25, (better known as Alyph) and freelance actress and teacher Azzah Fariha Samat, 26, came in their mafia-inspired get-up - think The Godfather meets Hong Kong crime film series Young and Dangerous - and cheongsams on Saturday.

The glitzy and light-hearted affair at Gardens by the Bay was attended by some 450 guests, including Singapore Idol winners Taufik Batisah and Sezairi Sezali, Malaysian host Aznil Nawawi and local celebrities like Fauzie Laily, Norfasarie, Fiza O, KC and Sheikh Haikel.

The solemnisation and wedding lunch had taken place earlier that day at the same venue.

Alyph's cousin, best man and fellow SleeQ member Ahmad Syarifullah (better known as Syarif), choked up as he gave a touching speech to the newly-weds.

"We laughed hard, fought hard and cried hard...but I cried more. You mean the world to me, and I just can't believe the day is here," said the 25-year-old, who jokingly blamed "technical difficulties" as he struggled to hold back tears.

"On this very special day, I wish you and Azzah all the best," he added, as Alyph stood up to hug him.

Syarif, who was present with his fiancee and Azzah's bridesmaid Malaque Mahdaly, hoped that the couple will have children soon.

"At least one, God-willing, I'll have one too, so that they will be SleeQ's proteges," he joked.

Syarif and Malaque, also 25, will tie the knot in November.

MARCH-IN

Saturday night's wedding dinner kicked off with a march-in by Azzah and Alyph to the song In Time Till Forever, performed by The Final 1 contestants and couple Hashy Yusof and Marc Than.

The song was specially written by Alyph for his wife.

Other performers included Sezairi as well as Syarif and Malaque, who performed a duet of Alicia Keys' If I Ain't Got You for the couple.

But it was Alyph who stole the spotlight with a romantic speech to his wife.

"I never fell in love before I met Azzah. Praise God for these four golden years. I'll protect you, I'll make you happy, I'll make you smile and I love you. I love you, and it will be forever," he said.

Azzah and Alyph left for a short honeymoon trip to Phuket yesterday.

But they overslept and missed their 8.30am flight and had to take a later one.

They were eager for the three-day break to relax after the wedding madness.

"Given our careers, we just want a holiday where we can chill, relax and have massages. After that, both Azzah and I have to get back to work," said Alyph just before their flight.

When they get back, Alyph will move into Azzah's family home in the west as the couple consider relocating to Kuala Lumpur.

Alyph and Syarif frequently shuttle between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for work and promotional activities.

CAREER OPTIONS

Meanwhile, Azzah is open to exploring her career options in Kuala Lumpur.

Asked about marital life, Azzah said it takes getting used to.

"It hasn't hit yet because we've been married only for hours, but I definitely have to get used to Alyph's habits. I'm organised and he's messy, but it should be okay - with training!" she joked.

But she is excited for the future with her husband.

"It's a great feeling for sure, spending the rest of our lives together and overcoming all difficulties together," she said.

On the topic of children, Alyph is looking forward to a big family.

Said Alyph: "I want 10! But I'm not sure if Azzah can handle that."

"So maybe three... Boys, so they can take care of us when we grow old."
