'Malaysia Chabor' wants to get rid of accent

Malaysian singer Joyce Chu is living her dreams, making her acting debut in a movie starring well-known Singaporean actors.

The 18-year-old YouTube personality rose to fame last year after the music video of her song Malaysia Chabor went viral, attracting over 8.6 million views.

Chu, who will be playing a rich and rebellious teenager in Young & Fabulous, said in Mandarin: "I've watched all these familiar faces on my television screen since I was young.

"I cannot believe I will be acting with them. I feel a little pressured and nervous."

To prepare for her first acting role, Chu has been going to bed before midnight to get rid of the dark circles under her eyes.

She is also working on getting rid of her strong Malaysian accent so that she can portray her role more convincingly.

To her, acting in a movie is definitely the breakthrough in her career.

She said: "People always remember me as an Internet personality and I want to move away from that.

"I think the movie is a perfect opportunity for me to do so."
