Man grills cancer out from his body: Girlfriend offers hugs for $2 each

A young woman offered one-minute hugs to strangers on the street in Hebei, in hopes of raising money for her beloved's cancer treatment.

She is the girlfriend of the young man whose unorthodox attempt to cure himself of leukaemia made headlines in China recently.

On April 9, Mr Jia Bin Hui had attempted to kill the cancer cells in his body by grilling himself over a 42-degree-Celsius fire.

However, a check-up on April 13 showed that his efforts did not yield any result, according to GuangZhou Daily.

The 25-year-old man could not afford the hefty 250,000 yuan (S$55,000) deposit needed for a bone marrow transplant.

Shanghaiist reported that doctors had warned the couple that it would be difficult to find a suitable donor again if they missed this transplant opportunity.

Out of despair, the young woman Yuanyuan took to the streets and offeredhugs for 10 yuan each to raise money for the surgery.

Her actions were inspired by a father in Beijing who offered to let strangers punch him for a 10 yuan fee. He managed to raise 800,000 yuan in donations for his son who also had leukaemia.

After Mr Jia learnt of the incident, he went to the scene and begged her to stop.

The couple reportedly had a heated argument before breaking down in tears.

They were later photographed locked in an embrace while kneeling in front of each other.

In a Xinhua report, Mr Jia said that he had stopped her because he couldn't bear to see Yuanyuan suffering for his sake.
