Following the announcement of Prince Harry's engagement to Suits actress Meghan Markle on the Twitter account of Kensington Palace, a formal photo call took place at the palace's Sunken Gardens with the couple. The 36-year-old bride-to-be stepped out with her fiance in a coat that had heads turning.
Everyone seemed to be buzzing with questions about the story behind her engagement ring and which stylists and designers were involved in dressing her for the event. The brands behind Markle's first royal look have since been identified: her white coat was designed by Canadian brand Line the Label, her green dress by P.A.R.O.S.H. and her heels by Aquaruzza.
After the sighting, president and co-founder of Line the Label John Muscat released a statement: "We are incredibly honoured that Meghan chose to wear a LINE coat to mark this very special occasion. Meghan has an effortlessly chic sense of style, which we've always admired."
Shortly after the brand of her now-infamous coat was identified, it was sold out and the brand reportedly encountered technical difficulties amid the royal engagement enthusiasm.
This is not the first time Markle has donned an item by the knitwear brand. In September, she wore a trench coat by LINE to the Invictus games. Incidentally, this also marks the first time she was publicly spotted with Prince Harry.
Given all the excitement surrounding the post-engagement photo call and Markle's evident preference for the brand, Muscat announced that the coat she wore-"one of her favourite pieces"-would be renamed the 'Meghan' to commemorate the future royal. In his statement, he said: "We are elated for Meghan and wish her a lifetime of happiness with Prince Harry".
According to Glamour, the Meghan coat costs about CA$799 (S$846).
There have been previous occasions wherein Markle's garments have sparked unprecedented attention and resulted in serious online traffic. Her burgundy dress by Aritzia and her white 'husband' button-down by Misha Nonoo, spotted on her last September, were also swiftly wiped clear of inventory. Royal fans are excited for even more iconic-and instantly sold-out-fashion moments from the actress in the months to come.
