KOTA KINABALU - A young boy slept through a furore his mother was causing as she attempted to pick the lock of her car and ignored the pleas of bystanders to just break the window and release the sleeping child.
The woman, who had apparently left her keys in the locked car, refused to allow anyone, including police and firemen at the scene, to smash her car.
Two bystanders, exasperated by her stubbornness, each allegedly offered her RM100 (S$37.80) to allow the firemen to smash the car window in the noon incident at Bandaran Berjaya here yesterday.
The woman relented and took the money.
The eight-year-old boy woke up due to the noise of smashing glass. He was not injured.
An off-duty medical officer gave him a brief check-up and the family quickly left the scene.
It is learnt no one had lodged a police report.
According to a witness, the woman had left the boy in the car while she and her daughter, aged about four, went to a nearby fast food joint.
"I was eating inside the restaurant when I saw the woman trying to open the car door by picking the lock," said the witness, who wanted to be known only as Hiew.
"The crowd grew larger and although many people advised the woman to break the window to get her son out, she refused.
"She also did not allow the police or firemen to do the job for her."
It was only after two men each allegedly gave her RM100 that she allowed firemen to break the window.
