Tiara Skadiang is a criminology and security major in university. Her interest in the field was sparked by TV police dramas like Crime Scene Investigation and Criminal Minds.
She said: "I wanted to do law, but realised I'm not interested in legal proceedings, but in the sociology of crime and the people involved."
The 20-year-old at Singapore Institute of Technology wants to work in such fields as policymaking and diplomacy in the future.
She added: "I want to be a polyglot (a person who can speak several languages) and do something on a global level."
Tiara also likes to sing. Indeed, she has joined school talent shows and uploads covers to YouTube occasionally.
She said: "I picked up singing a few years ago, but never thought of it as a career. Now, I sing while showering most of the time!"
LOVE FOR MUSIC
Tiara's love for music goes back to her primary school days when she first heard Aaliyah and Lauryn Hill.
She said: "I support all genres, but my favourites are hip-hop, R&B, and soul."
Tiara said her proudest accomplishment is getting into university.
She explained: "I used to think I'm a case of 'could have been', having always been an average achiever and 'almost-getting-there-but-never-really-made-it' kind. Getting that (university) acceptance letter was therefore a huge thing for me.
She added: "As a kid, I was pretty care-free. I would happily welcome those extra hours in bed and waste a lot of free time I had after school.
"Now, I would feel guilty if I idle around. I actually like being busy and fill my free time with as many things to do as possible."
