New Paper New Face finalists treated to make-up tutorial

Ever since she started using make-up, Denise Pung, 21, has struggled with getting the "perfect skin look".

It was only three weeks ago that the business undergraduate at the University of London learnt she had been doing it wrong the whole time.

Denise, along with her fellow finalists from The New Paper New Face 2015, were at a beauty workshop organised by Her World on Sept 5, where they were pampered with a make-up tutorial and coffee art workshop.

Her World is the leading women's magazine in Singapore and the official magazine for the competition.

Senior make-up artist for M.A.C. Beno Lim, 46, dolled up one of the finalists to show a basic look for casting, as well as other beauty tips.

Denise said her dry and dull skin were some of the problems she faced when putting on make-up.

She said: "Without the use of proper moisturisers to prep my face, any foundation I use will crack and make my pores even more visible.

Achievable

"I'm keen to follow the steps Beno took to achieve that 'perfect skin look'. He made it seem so easy and achievable even for an amateur like me," she said.

The official beverage of the competition is Caffe Cagliari, which is distributed by Owl International.

Representatives from the company conducted a 45-minute coffee workshop with a live coffee art demonstration.

Her World senior writer, Mr Eugene Quek, said he was pleasantly surprised by the camaraderie between the girls.

Mr Quek: "(They were) very eager to learn, very giggly and goofy - in a good way.

"They looked like a bunch of girlfriends on a date, which was really sweet, actually. I was expecting more of a competitive Mean Girls vibe."

Actually, the girls were so excited that the organisers were inundated with their questions.

Student R. Nametha, 17, said: "Everything was insightful. I've been putting make-up on more often recently because of the competition so it was really helpful."

Denise added: "I haven't seen the finalists in a while so it was a great catch-up session... I've made a lot of friends through this contest and we have become good friends."
