Pregnant Gigi Leung gains 'unhealthy' 9kg in 5 months

Hong Kong actress Gigi Leung, who experienced life as a buxom babe in her most-recent movie Aberdeen released earlier this year, could actually be living her reel life now that she is pregnant.

Since announcing her pregnancy in September, the once-lithe and leggy actress has reportedly ballooned in size, gaining about 20 pounds (9 kg). Not only did her weight increase, but her chest also expanded three sizes, from an A-cup to a D-cup, reported Sina Entertainment.

The 5-month pregnant actress has reportedly developed a penchant for unhealthy sweets and was recently spotted going to a candy shop in Central with her husband Sergio.

According to the site, fellow shoppers commented that Leung looked like she was already seven months along.

During their trip to the store, Sergio kept discouraging his wife from over-buying and was seen protectively putting a hand around her to guide her inside the crowded store.

But the actress was reportedly too absorbed in her shopping to notice her husband's caring touches.

The 38-year-old actress announced that was was three-and-a-half months pregnant during an event in September.

Leung admitted to the media that she and her husband had unsuccessfully tried to conceive for more than two years after tying the knot.

Although she felt discouraged and disappointed, Leung said she's thankful for her husband support. He was the one who suggested a holiday to the US to relax, and that's where their baby was conceived.

Since falling pregnant, Leung said her appetite has changed, and she has developed a fondness for things she never used to like, such as chocolate milk.

She can also eat two bowls of fishball noodles for lunch, on top of soups and tonics her mum prepares, which explains the extraordinary weight gain.

According to obstetricians, it is unhealthy for a pregnant mum to gain more than three pounds a month, as it would make the mum-to-be susceptible to developing diabetes and other health issues, reported Sina.

On Nov 2, the actress and her husband were in the news for almost causing an accident in Hong Kong, when Sergio drove in the wrong direction on a one-way street.

The actress clarified the incident in a statement on Nov 3 saying it was because he is unfamiliar with the roads in Hong Kong. "My husband has always been a safe driver, but he made a small blunder this time," said Leung.
