Pregnant Vivian Hsu turns hospital ward into classroom to learn English

29-weeks pregnant Vivian Hsu is back in hospital in Singapore and confined to bedrest for the rest of her pregnancy.

According to My Paper, the Taiwanese actress-singer has chosen to put her free time to good use, spending some time every day to brush up on her English instead.

Hsu, 40, posted a picture on Instagram three days ago, which showed a wall in her room plastered with handwritten notes of translated words from English to Chinese.

She revealed that she was spurred to learn the language as many of the nurses at the hospital spoke English, and she initially could not understand the medical terms that they used.

She says her ward is now her classroom, and the wall is her 'chalkboard'. When she encounters a word that she doesn't understand, she gets her cousin to write it down on a piece of paper, and forces herself to remember it by the third time she encounters the word.

In a separate post, Hsu revealed that her weight has surpassed the 60kg mark since the end of June. But the petite actress said she is determined to get back to her trim self after the birth of her baby.

"But first, I must give myself time to be steady on my feet again. My legs are now soft from lying in bed for so long. I need to learn how to walk, before I can run, right?"

Hsu also posted a recent ultrasound scan of her baby boy, stating that he now weighs 1.5kg, but "must reach at least 2kg before he is allowed to come out".
