Go for: Compact powder foundation, or lightweight, oil-free liquid foundation with oil-control and skin-mattifying properties. Skip thick, heavy or creamy foundations - these make your skin look greasy.

Coverage matters: Pick the foundation according to the amount of coverage you need.

For light coverage (just to even out your skin tone), try sheer foundations like Shu Uemura Skin:fit Cosmetic Water Foundation, $68 (available in seven shades), and Kose Esprique Cool BB Spray UV 50, $32 (available in two shades). An even-toned looking skin helps to give the illusion of better skin conditions.

If your complexion is slightly uneven, go for Za Perfect Fit Liquid Foundation, $18.50 (available in six shades), and M.A.C Studio Fix Fluid, $54 (available in 22 shades), which give good coverage.

It's not advisable to create a full coverage on oily skin - even if you want to hide your pores. This is because it would cause foundation to collect in your pores, and create even more focus to the oiliness of your skin.

However, if you do need a fuller coverage that can resist sweat and facial sebum effectively, try Shiseido UV Protective Compact Foundation, $43 (in nine shades), and the soon-to-be-released KatVonD Lock-it Tattoo Foundation. Note that the higher coverage that offers longer wearing power against oily skin.

Last, but not Least

Go easy on face moisturisers: Now that you have decided on the foundation to get. You need to know how to help it stay put on your oily skin. If you tend to sweat a lot, or if your skin gets greasy easily, you do not need to overly hydrate your skin with skincare products.

A hydrating toner like Bioderma Hydrabio Tonique will keep skin supple.

If you feel that your skin still feels tight or dry, use your fingers to massage an anti-ageing serum into your skin.

If your skin feels comfortable and supple, you can skip the face moisturiser and use a lightweight sunscreen. Having too much skincare products on the skin can make your makeup patchy, and can cause your makeup to slide off or disappeared.

3 things to know when touching up your foundation for oily skin

Ÿ#1: First, use a piece of clean tissue and dab away oil on your skin surface before touching up the powder. This prevents any powder build up to cause the clumping.

#2:Ÿ If you have very oily skin, you can use Shiseido Ibuki Quick Fix Mist to lightly spray over the face to help take away the excess oil before blotting away and powder touch up.

#3:Ÿ Touch up your makeup with a sheer press powder like M.A.C Blot Powder Pressed as this regulates oil production on the skin surface. If you prefer higher coverage, use Moonshot Powder Fixer.
