Qi Yuwu writes about being married, says wife Joanne Peh is like his "mirror"

Singapore - Newlywed actor Qi Yuwu says his wife, actress Joanne Peh, is like a mirror in which he sees his faults and merits.

In a column that was published in Lianhe Zaobao today, Qi, 37, shared his thoughts on his wedding two weeks ago on Sentosa, surrounded by his family from his native China and watched by a Merlion statue.

He said it was not a scene he had expected, when he came to Singapore alone 15 years ago.

"I must have done something right all these years, to have all this," he wrote.

Qi, who dated Peh, 31, for a year before the wedding, said: "I seem to have found a mirror and through her, I see the good and the bad in me. It makes me feel inferior and proud. I can be myself and grow up."

He said he had worried that he might not be ready for marriage, but realised that "in the face of life, no one can be fully prepared".

Marriage is about two people, not one, and "there might be wishful thinking about what you want to give each other, but in the end, it isn't certain who will give what to whom".

After the wedding, he has felt like a new "student" of marriage, he said.

The experiences of other married people add up to a "profound philosophical text" but "I will find my own answers, continue to learn to love myself, learn to love others, and continue to grow through constant adjustments", he wrote.
