Smell fresh

Beauty houses have been releasing more eau de parfums (EDPs). In the past, most perfume releases were relatively lighter eau de toilettes (EDTs).

The latest EDPs are not cloyingly rich. They are more intense than the regular EDT, but still wearable in humid weather and tend to last longer. Perfect for parties that last deep into the night.

The labels EDT and EDP reflect the percentage of aromatic com- pounds in a fragrance. An EDP is made with 12 to 20 per cent of aromatic compounds and can linger for up to eight hours in Singapore's weather. An EDT contains 8 to 12 per cent of concentrates and lasts up to six hours here. A parfum is the strongest, with 20 to 30 per cent of it made up of fragrance oil. It has a very intense scent, and can last up to 12 hours. But the longevity of the perfume also depends on the quality of the ingredients.
