Soo not letting gossip get to her
Staying strong: Wincci remains unaffected by rumours of her being a 'husband snatcher'.

PETALING JAYA - Beauty queen-turned entertainment celebrity Soo Wincci, rumoured to have snatched another woman's husband, said she is not letting any gossip distract her from pursuing her PhD.

"It doesn't bother me at all. It's human to gossip, so I can just let it be and let the truth reveal itself," said the 29-year-old former Miss World Malaysia, who had also worn several other crowns in her beauty pageant career.

Soo, a doctorate student in the field of Business Administration, was rumoured to be dating Hong Kong actor Daniel Chan when both were working on a music video and a short film.

Tabloids in Taiwan and Hong Kong labelled her as "a husband snatcher", because Chan was married with a daughter.

"During the shooting period, we tried to keep everything private and confidential but news in Taiwan goes about so fast!

"There was some misunderstanding, loads of patience and some strategy involved before the music video and short film were released," said Soo in a recent interview after returning home to Malaysia.

She and Chan continue to be close friends and recently sang a duet at the wedding of a Taiwanese actress.

Soo first won a beauty contest when she was crowned Miss Malaysia Intercontinental pageant in 2004 and there was no stopping her from winning several other crowns after that.

In 2008, she represented Malaysia in the Miss World beauty pageant in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Since then she has been involved in the music industry, composing and singing songs.

Soo, also a popular TV personality, released her first Chinese album in Taiwan in 2012.

She is due to appear in an upcoming Malay theatrical production, Ratu, at Istana Budaya while busy promoting her latest album in Taiwan and Malaysia.

In between, she is completing her PhD, with a focus on social media and marketing strategy.
