Swedish star Alicia Vikander is fashion's latest sweetheart

Although Swedish actress Alicia Vikander has been gaining international traction with each new plum movie roles bigger than the last, her rise as Hollywood's latest It Girl was no doubt boosted when she was named the new face of Louis Vuitton in July this year.

The dark-haired beauty joins established actresses Jennifer Connelly and Michelle Williams in the French luxury brand's Fall 2015 campaign.

The 26-year-old was born to a stage actor mother and psychiatrist father, and had trained as a dancer at the Royal Swedish Ballet School from the age of nine.

It was after sustaining an injury during her late teens and while she was on popular Swedish show Andra Avenyn in 2008 that she developed a passion for acting.

Although her street style is a laidback mix of sweaters and shorts, her lithe figure is shown to best effect in the season's latest looks: She pulls off feminine and figure-hugging long gowns with ease on the red carpet.

She made Vanity Fair's 2015 International Best-Dressed List and has appeared in fashion editorials in magazine such as Elle France, luxury e-commerce site Net-a- Porter's The Edit and Love magazine.

Vikander is the current squeeze of Michael Fassbender, star of 2011's X-Men: First Class and her co-star in Guy Ritchie's recently released comedy-spy film, The Man From U.NC.L.E.
