Taiwanese actress Rainie Yang: Everyone thinks of me differently

When it comes to love, Rainie Yang is definitely in two minds.

"Most girls fall into relationships wholeheartedly, but I find myself wavering between being happy and unhappy in love," she said at her press conference in Singapore last Friday.

"I think everyone's 'relationship personality' and true personality can be quite different. I feel you can change your character, but you can't easily change your relationship patterns."

Rumoured to be dating Chinese singer Li Ronghao, the sweet Taiwanese singer-actress was caught in a whirlwind of speculation last month when Li posted a picture of the pair in a embrace on Chinese microblogging site Weibo.

Although the photo was later deleted by Li, screenshots have been circulating online.

To complicate matters, some netizens claimed that Li, 30, is secretly married, and that Yang is a "xiao san" (Mandarin for third party).

He has denied the claims and said they are "just friends."

At a recent press conference in Taiwan, host Maltilda Tao teased Yang about her relationship with Li, causing Yang, 30, to blush and break out in a sweat.

However, she remained cool when asked by the local media if she was dating anyone.

She said: "I'm not prepared to discuss romance openly. I'm used to hiding that part of my life and I don't feel good about it. Men feel that when they go out with me, they can't walk down the street in peace."

Yang was in town for an autograph session at Compass Point yesterday and a showcase at Shanghai Dolly on Saturday as part of her promotional tour for her latest album A Tale Of Two Rainie, released last December. Inspired by her experiences in Taipei and New York, it also hints at multiple facets of her character and public image.

"Everyone thinks of me differently... some people see me as just a singer, and others, as an actress. I wanted to explore different sides of myself in this album."

MILESTONE

She added: "Turning 30 this year is an important milestone for me and I feel I've grown more confident in myself and am taking the lead more in my career."

However, Yang admitted sheepishly she still finds it hard to cut the apron strings.

"I moved out of my mum's house, but couldn't bear to go far! Her place is just across... from mine. I miss my mum, but I'm learning to rely on myself more."

However, she assured fans she will continue acting. After all, it was her lead role in the 2005 drama Devil Beside You that catapulted her to stardom.

"I've been getting a lot of rotten scripts lately," she said candidly. "But that may also be my fault. I've done so many dramas and movies over my career that my standards are quite high now."
