Top 10 most popular female celebrities of 2014 unveiled

SINGAPORE - The top 10 most popular female celebrities of 2014 have been revealed. Yahoo Singapore on Wednesday (Dec 17) announced its 2014 Year in Review (YIR), an annual recap of the top search trends, happenings and events which captured the interest of Yahoo users in Singapore the most.

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence was the most popular female celebrity, according to search trends. The Hunger Games star also came up tops in Google's list of top celebrity searches in 2014, according to Time Magazine.

Lawrence has had an eventful year, starring in two blockbuster sequels, X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1.

She also clinched a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in American Hustle and received several other nominations like the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead for the film Silver Linings Playbook.

The actress also suffered a major setback in Aug, following the iCloud hacking scandal in which dozens of famous women celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Rihanna had their nude photos leaked online.

Other local and international women celebrities who made it to Yahoo Singapore's list included first-time moms Fann Wong, Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian, and newlyweds Amal Alamuddin,Vivian Hsu and Joanne Peh.

The most searched-for news event of the year was the disappearance of MH370, while other top searches included the iPhone 6, Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) levels in Singapore and the animation film Frozen.

YIR is based on what users searched for throughout the year, and an editorial selection of what was most read, recommended and shared on the portal. Other categories include Most Popular Male Celebrities and Top Singapore news makers.
