Top Mum: My mother raised 9 children despite my father having schizophrenia

Lim Lay Poh, 53, will always be grateful to her mother for sticking by her side and raising her eight siblings, along with taking care of their schizophrenic father over the years.
In Stomp's Top Mum Awards 2015 meant to celebrate Mother's Day, Mdm Lim wishes to thank Mdm Ang Ah Kim for all her dedication and the sacrifices she has made.
This is her dedication to her mother, Mdm Ang:
"My mother, aged 80, is simply an amazing mother, as she has struggled hard and emotionally, experienced adversity and devastating poverty from the day of her marriage to my father, who is a Schizophrenia victim of his own.
"Pregnancies of nine children for her body were not easy for her when she did not eat well and had to do heavy household chores demanded by our paternal grandparents and uncles and aunties.
"As she is not educated and poor, she may have some flaws in her parenting, behavioural patterns and attitudes, but above all, she is the embodiment of resilience during her hard times and frustrating times with no one by her side to sit down and talk to her and to support her.
"Her resilience, patience and attitude against odds define her own source of strength when she has nothing at all during her tough moments.
"To survive, she has to keep wheedling her way through a tunnel so that she can see light and hope at times.
"She has to turn a corner, dig a hole, go through a tunnel - and find a way to keep moving so as to continuously put bowls of porridge with black sauce on our tables.
"Mother's Day only comes once a year, but to me, Mother's Day is celebrated every day with my filial piety towards you within my financial means.
"We are each other's Little Apple like the lyrics in Xiao Ping Guo.
"My heart is full of memories of your tough moments, with pride I speak your name, Mdm Ang Ah Kim."
