What are some products to reboot your skincare regime to make it more effective?

I'm really tired but have an event to attend. How can I make my skin look brighter and fresher instantly?

Give yourself at least an hour to get ready for the event.

Try to fit in a 20-minute power nap, during which you can apply a mask that will give you fresher, brighter and clearer-looking skin.

When skin is exfoliated, quenched and nourished, your make-up will set better and last longer too.

These products work for me every time. Each can be used on their own, before your skincare regime.

If you have extra time, use an exfoliating mask first, followed by a hydrating and nourishing one.

EXFOLIATE

1. Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment, $92, from Sephora and Escentials stores

A celebrity favourite, this mask is made to give skin an instant post-facial glow.

It is blended with French sea clay to detoxify, and green tea leaf pieces to deliver antioxidants to the skin. The mask leaves skin with an intense tingling sensation.

Once the mask is dry in about 15 minutes, wet it again with water and exfoliate skin with the volcanic pumice rock bits in the formula. Pores will look tighter, while skin is smoother and brighter.

2. Kose Sekkisei Clear Whitening Mask, $35, from Kose counters

This peel-off mask will give you brighter, clearer and squeaky clean skin pronto.

It is made with red oolong tea extract to tighten pores, and Chinese quince extract to control sebum. It also calms redness and angry pimples immediately.

Apply a thick layer onto skin. Once it dries, it becomes a latex-like layer that also tightens skin.

As you peel it off, the dead skin cells, black heads and unwanted fine hairs that are stuck on the mask will be removed.

But be careful not to apply the mask on your brows or hairline, as your hair will be ripped off too when you peel off the mask.

HYDRATE AND NOURISH

1. Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask, from $88, from Sephora stores

This formula has a creamy, whipped texture; a relaxing floral scent; and gives skin a refreshing tingling sensation. Apply on clean skin and leave it on for five to 10 minutes. Rinse.

It is made with antioxidant-rich black tea ferment to soften, smoothen and add a glow; lychee seed extract to boost skin elasticity; and jicama root juice to hydrate and nourish.

2. For Beloved One Extreme Hydration Bio-Cellulose Mask, $63 for a three-piece box, from Sephora stores

This sheet mask is made with bio-cellulose, a soft and pulpy material that is said to have superior water-retaining properties. Bio-cellulose is sometimes used in hospitals to speed up the healing process of patients' wounds.

Soaked in the brand's hydrating essence, this mask will thoroughly and quickly moisturise skin.

After removing the mask, pat the essence into the skin.

3. Skin Inc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask, from $72, from Skin Inc counters

A thick gel mask that dries quickly to seal moisture into the skin with hyaluronic acid. Deep-sea water from Japan nourishes while soy bean extract brightens.

The formula is also gentle enough for soothing irritated and intolerant skin.

Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, and rinse.

It also works well as an overnight mask.
