Xiang Yun "really wanted to get married" when she met Edmund Chen

SINGAPORE - Actress Xiang Yun was recently a guest star on husband Edmund Chen's docu-video project, Ah Cai La Kopi, broadcast on YouTube. 'La Kopi' is a Hokkien slang for 'pulling coffee', which in essence, means to chit chat over a cup of joe.

In the video, the actress reveals how the pair got together and became everyone's favourite celebrity couple in the 90s, staying married for more than 25 years.

The 53-year-old veteran actress adorably confesses that she was "already 29 then and I really wanted to get married".

What she remembers most about Chen when they first met was how the acting newbie was always plugged into his 'Walkman' and moving to the music.

"A bunch of us more experienced actors would gossip and wonder if he was secretly eavesdropping on our conversation," recalls Xiang Yun, laughing.

She described Edmund, also 53, as very outgoing, and with "a unique character". "After we shot a drama series together, we became a couple", said the actress.

Xiang Yun also revealed that the years after she gave birth to her first child, son Yixi, was the lowest point she experienced in her professional life, as she only filmed one or two dramas a year.

But she told herself not to give up, because she really enjoyed her unique job, one which she says allows her to "experience the lives of many different people".

"I encourage young people to pursue their dreams and their passion, because that's what I did," said the thespian.
