Aeromexico plane makes emergency landing in Ireland

MEXICO CITY - An Aeromexico Boeing 787 traveling from Mexico City to Paris made an emergency landing in Ireland on Monday after a fire alarm went off in the cargo hold, authorities said.

But there was no indication of any fire after the cargo compartment was checked following the landing at the airport in Shannon, Ireland, Mexico's transport ministry said in a statement.

Aeromexico said flight was diverted in accordance to safety procedures and that the Dreamliner, which was carrying 181 passengers, landed "without mishap."

The Dreamliner was temporarily grounded globally in 2013 over an electrical problem in which several planes experienced problems with batteries overheating, causing a fire on one aircraft. Changes were made to prevent its recurrence.
