Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr has reportedly witnessed a horrific murder-suicide on FaceTime.

Mayweather, 37, was talking to rapper Earl Hayes when he saw Hayes produce a gun and shoot his wife Stephanie Moseley (right) dead before turning the gun on himself and pulling the trigger, entertainment news website TMZ claimed.

The incident happened in a Los Angeles apartment in an upmarket area, the report claimed.

TMZ said that Mayweather, who is undefeated as a professional and is a five-division world champion, tried desperately to talk Hayes out of it, but failed.

AFFAIR

Sources close to the boxer told the entertainment website that the rapper told him that he was going to kill his dancer wife because of her alleged infidelity.

The report also said that Mayweather is "in shock" and is "having extreme difficulty dealing with the fact that he witnessed a horrifying murder/suicide".

Los Angeles police rushed to the apartment on Monday morning after neighbours heard a woman screaming and up to 10 gunshots, a police spokesman said.

Moseley and Hayes had suffered gunshot wounds.

Burrel Wilks, Hayes' life coach and close friend, described the couple as long-time partners who were in the process of breaking up, reported KTLA, a local television station.

"I've had sit-downs with both of them. So whatever happened behind those doors we'll never know, but I heard out of her own mouth, he never raised a hand on her. So this is kind of stunning," he was quoted as saying.

A source told TMZ that Hayes had recently accused her of sleeping with an unnamed famous singer.

A friend of Hayes' said he was a songwriter for R&B singer Alicia Keys.

Along with starring as Arelly on the VH1 drama series Hit The Floor, Moseley appeared in movies like 2012's Mirror Mirror and 2011's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1.

But her true passion was dance.

She had worked with many high-profile singers including Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Pharrell Williams, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Beyonce.

On Monday, Brown posted a tribute to Moseley on Instagram: "RIP baby girl. Danced with me on tour and was always the coolest person. My prayers go out to you."
