Child robot newscaster unveiled in Tokyo
Kodomoroid speaks at a press conference in Koto Ward, Tokyo, on Wednesday.

An android named Kodomoroid, created in the image of a 10-year-old girl, was unveiled this week at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Koto Ward, Tokyo.

The robot's name is an amalgamation of the words kodomo (child) and android, and it delivers news each day, creating naturalistic facial expressions through the use of pneumatically functioning artificial muscles.

Kodomoroid was developed by Osaka University Prof. Hiroshi Ishiguro, who specializes in robotics. At a press conference on Wednesday, it smoothly delivered news about the earthquake that occurred that morning near the Aleutian Islands.
